District court sentences actor Moe Aung Yin 12 years for drug abuse
District court sentenced a 12-year prison term for actor Moe Aung Yin under Section 19 (a) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
Hpone Myint Aung, who was arrested along with him, was also sentenced 12-year prison term and 3-year prison term under Section 19 (a) and 15 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law respectively. Another accomplice, Lu Lu Than Oo, was also sentenced 3-year prison term under Section 15 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
The prosecution presented 14 witnesses and the defence presented 16 witnesses during the trial, which took more than two years.
Police searched an apartment in Tamwe Township apparently lived by Moe Aung Yin on August 29 2016 and found his friend Hpone Myint Aung and Lu Lu Than Oo along with 34 grams of marijuana in a plastic box on the bed and 1,300 grams of marijuana in a plastic box under the bed.
He had also been sentenced five-year prison term by a township court under Section 15 and 16 (c) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law on November 25 in this year.
