DISCUSSION ON MAKING: EXPERTS MEET FOR MAKING GOOD MOVIE
A Panel Discussion on Making Good Movie took place at the Film Development Centre on Sunday.
The discussion in Yangon focused on the pre-production process, the first and crucial stage in a movie/film making which is followed by other stages - production, post-production and exhibition.
Film Director, Zaw Myint Oo said “Pre-production is fundamental process in a quality film production. I think the government’s support will make our industry develop quicker. There aren’t many difficulties in technical aspects but we still don’t have enough virtual studios.”
Film Director, Christina Kyi said “Today, I’d discuss about target of audience and ways to increase production level without high budget. Currently, there are challenges such as insufficient cinema to screen and shortage in crew. Teamwork is important in film production.”
The discussion also included a presentation on current status, challenges, opportunities and law of Myanmar film industry.
Member, Film Development Centre Management Team, Swe Zin Htike said “Pre-production plays a big role in a film production but it has been getting faded. I always ask for the script first if someone requests me to produce their film. And then, I produce a pre-production design. A contract is also essential and financial matter comes after that. We also have to calculate the above-the-line cost and below-the-line cost and produce a call sheet. However, most people in Myanmar film industry exclude these steps.”
The Film Development Centre plans to hold panel discussions on post-production, censorship and exhibition and many other topics at least once a month.
