Film studio project in Nay Pyi Taw brings investment opportunities


UNION Minister for Information Dr. Pe Myint has called for private businesses to consider investment opportunities in the film sector as the Union Government, ministries concerned and the Nay Pyi Taw Council have been working on establishing modern film studios in the capital.
        Speaking at a ceremony to show a documentary about establishing modern movie studios at the Motion Picture Promotion Division of the Information and Public Relations Department in Yangon, Dr. Pe Myint said the Ministry of Information has joined hands with people from the film business to step up efforts for development of Myanmar’s movie industry, as the State Counsellor has expressed a desire for improvement of the art of motion pictures.
        Promoting the socio-economic life of the people of the country’s movie industry, their creativity and boosting investment in the movie industry are parts of the development of Myanmar motion picture industry, he said.
        High quality products of the motion industry can attract the interest of local people and neighbouring countries as well, and the country’s image can be improved through the movies, he added. Afterwards, the documentary by director Zaw Myint Oo about the strong points for using Nay Pyi Taw as a location for shooting a movie was shown. Next, Nay Pyi Taw Councilmember U Min Thu and Deputy Director-General of the Myanmar Investment Commission U Thant Sin Lwin spoke about assistance for establishing modern studios and investment opportunities in Nay Pyi Taw.
        At the meeting, suggestions on establishing movie studios, cinemas, and film schools were made by chairman of the Myanma Motion Picture Organisation U Zin Waing, Secretary U Nyi Nyi Tun Liwn, Director U Zinyaw Maung Maung, Director Maung Myo Min, Daw Swe Zin Htike and Patron of Myanmar Motion Picture Organisation Director U Soe Moe, Managing Director of Mingalar Company Ltd and Mingalar Zaw Film Production U Zaw Min and Script Writer U KoKo Lay. The efforts for establishing modern movie studios are also aimed at entertaining the people who visit Nay Pyi Taw and to develop Nay Pyi Taw.
        Learning from foreign countries which are famous for their movie industries, plans are being formed to establish a park for a movie studio and film schools, and a cinema-based entertainment city.
